Helps with issues faced in achieving health improvement and effective services. The programme will introduce you to basic public health by improving understanding of the key domains and exploring the application of skills in practice. All are underpinned by surveillance and monitoring of health and the determinants of health.

This course is aimed at: The public health workforce including, Public Health Practitioners, GP Consortia and Commissioning managers, GPs, PCT and Acute Trust staff, Health Visitors, Midwives, School Nurses, Community Nurses, Environmental Health Practitioners, Police, Fire Brigade, Voluntary Sector.

Style: Interactive, ‘problem orientated’, designed to help with issues relevant to participants in achieving health improvement and effective services.

  • Community Development
  • Health Impact Assessment
  • Health Needs Assessment
  • Critical Appraisal
  • Partnership Working

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain the knowledge, skills and language to promote health
  • Understand the wider determinants of health and wellbeing and understand that these are commodities that are not evenly distributed within our communities
  • Be able to differentiate between health, wellbeing and illness and to explore positive concepts of mental and physical health
  • Examine opportunities to promote health in the workplace
  • Explore opportunities to improve health outcomes
